Missive 006 - Seoul
August 22nd, 2026
I close my eyes. A few deep breaths. I open them again.
I’m on my way to Busan after three days in Seoul. Everything here feels so familiar and so different at the same time.
Seoul is huge. And only a fool like me would pretend to grasp any of it in just a couple of days. But I tried. I walked. I sweated. I met with Chansik, another great photographer based in Seoul. I pushed myself quite hard. 26,000 steps a day.
And here I am. Immersed in my thoughts.
Living my daily life without clear expectations comes naturally to me. But when it comes to photography? That's another story. I have a list of districts to visit. I make strict plans to cover them all. I’m really demanding on myself and my photography practice. Seoul has been a clear signal that this is something I need to adjust.
It wasn’t an easy place to photograph. I thrive mostly in colors and layers, and the city feels toned down. Having very few moments of sunlight didn’t help. By the end of my stay, real life showed how unrealistic my plans and expectations were.
A bump of the train brings me back to the present. I turn my eyes to today’s date. I can’t believe it’s just three weeks I’m on the road. It feels a couple of months already.
The train to Busan is calm. Mountains run in front of my eyes.
Another short stop ahead.
Till the next missive,
— M
